Fairway woods were originally suited with a club head made out of hardwood, hence the name. Fairway woods typically range from 3-Woods to 11-Woods, but can go all the way up to 21-Woods. In general, the lower the wood number, the longer the shot and the lower the loft. Many would consider an 11-Wood the highest suitable fairway wood, as anything about a 30 degree loft is usually better for shorter shots.
